I recently decided to redo my portfolio ala my Website.
Now, one doesn’t just go and redo one’s portfolio. This is something that should be given some thought and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. The question I keep coming back to is what makes a good portfolio? What should I make it look like? Should I make it dark and minimal; maybe flashy and something wild or something that I’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the change to do? Should I use Wordpress, Expression Engine or just static pages? The list goes on and on!
I found an article on Snap2Objects.com that struck as really funny because of all the designing I’m doing at this point in my career. In summation, it basically says not to use about 80%of the images I was looking at using. Now, it’s not to say that I’m a lesser designer for using these images but in corporate design, usually the “safe” approach is the one most taken. So, yes i’m guilty of following the heard but I’ve also heard that Web 2.0 is so…last year!
Check out the article, it’s a good read! Even though, there are still some practical uses for this kind of imagery.
Now that I’m a new father and pretty much a tech geek I’m looking for something to interest Cameron in when he gets a little older. I found this game where kids can just mash on the computer keyboard and cool images and sounds popup. It’s called Baby Smashand it’s really quite interesting.
As a DJ, as a retired DJ now a professional “Bed Room” DJ, I can say that this piece of software is strictly for the hardcore enthusiasts! Mixed In Key analyzes your music and tells you what key its in. This way you can have your entire mix in the same key or in a complimentary key. And since most of my music is now mp3 I think that I could come up with a wikkid set! I’m not sure if it would be boring to only stay in one key but I’ve read that this software also recommends keys.
They say “professional DJs, including Deep Dish and Pete Tong from BBC Radio 1 in using Mixed In Key software.” So, I guess it can’t be half bad!
Watch the Demo.
But i got to say..the video leaves a lot to be desired!
Now that I’ve had some rest and I’ve finally gotten through my daily reads which accumulated on Google Reader (all my categories were 1000+) over the past weeks I can now begin my weekly posts.
So, why not start off with a little music. I recently rediscovered RBMA Radioкомпютри, Red Bull’s Music Academy. They have some really sweet archives that are totally worth looking at especially Marcus Intelix’s mixes. They‘re just awesome.
