Well, it’s that time again, construction time! L and I have begun construction on our master bath/bedroom and boy is it FUN! We’ve just passed the WTF Stage of Remodeling and are now taking a short (2 day) break!
For those who aren’t familiar with the WTF Stage of Remodeling I’ll explain. The WTF Stage of Remodeling translates directly into "What The Fuck". The concept means you never know what you’re going to find behind a wall, under a piece of tile or generally what to expect when you start to tear things apart.
A good example of this stage is, L and I noticed when we would shower in the master bath shower the floor tiles began cracking. Not knowing how the shower was constructed we decided not to use the shower and wait for the demo to find out why they were cracking.
When we started to demo the shower floor I got the first piece of tile up and noticed there was another piece of tile attached to the first piece. The second piece of tile was the same tile that covers the rest of the bathroom floor. Hmm, I thought, this is weird. When I inspected it further I also noticed a white gooey residue under the second piece of tile. I thought to my self, "what the fuck is that?!!" Then it occurred to me, this is adhesive and it’s still wet. Ureka! I’ve solved the unsolvable tile cracking problem! This is why, when we would take a shower, the tiles would crack. Because the adhesive under the second layer of tile was still wet and would shift the first layer of tile would crack.
As I was pondering the thought process someone goes through to justify building a shower base like this I realized the adhesive would never have dried, ever! Thus, it occurs to me no matter what I would have had to REDO the shower! DOH!
Anyways, this is just one example of the WTF Stage of Remodeling. I am sure, before it is all said and done, L and I will have a few more WTF moments.
