I recently decided to redo my portfolio ala my Website.
Now, one doesn’t just go and redo one’s portfolio. This is something that should be given some thought and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. The question I keep coming back to is what makes a good portfolio? What should I make it look like? Should I make it dark and minimal; maybe flashy and something wild or something that I’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the change to do? Should I use Wordpress, Expression Engine or just static pages? The list goes on and on!
I found an article on Snap2Objects.com that struck as really funny because of all the designing I’m doing at this point in my career. In summation, it basically says not to use about 80%of the images I was looking at using. Now, it’s not to say that I’m a lesser designer for using these images but in corporate design, usually the “safe” approach is the one most taken. So, yes i’m guilty of following the heard but I’ve also heard that Web 2.0 is so…last year!
Check out the article, it’s a good read! Even though, there are still some practical uses for this kind of imagery.
Well, I’ve finally joined the ranks of Smart phone users across the globe! I hemmed and hawked at sprint and they finally gave me a Smart Phone for what was quite a deal. It’s kind of an interesting story because I basically told Sprint that it would be cheaper to cancel my service than to get a new phone with them. And since I have been with them almost 8 years they finally gave in (after I contacted their cancelation department, where it’s their job to try all they can do to keep customers) and they gave me a great phone at a really good price. With the introduction of the iPhone (like it or not) it has set the industry in motion to create a richer interface for Mobile users. As mobile applications gain popularity Firefox has finally started developing their 1.0 version of Touch Screen UI Designs for mobile web surfing. This step is in sync with the trend for this year, The Mobile Internet. Yes, you can already surf the internet on your phone but it’s still a little unfamiliar and sometimes awkward. Even with the iPhone’s UI, which other phones are now following, Mobile browsing doesn’t have an industry standard. In addition, with touch screen movement gaining huge ground and Firefox stepping up to the plate, I believe users will want to browse via their mobile phones more than ever. I think the Mobile Internet will make a strong impression in the next year and if we have a choice of browsers, I think it will entice us to try Mobile surfing or at least, get a Touch Screen phone!
