How to Carve a Turkey

Family, Random 1 Comment »

In keeping with the holiday season I thought I would post a how on carving a turkey. This year I’m hosting my entire family at my house and I’ll be the one carving the turkey. Some think it’s just as simple as taking a knife and start cutting. Well, there’s more to it than that my friends.

Some things you’ll need are:

  • 1 roast turkey
  • 1 sharp knife. A boning or carving knife, which has a long, narrow blade or electric carving knife is best, but any very sharp knife will do.
  • 2 cutting boards
  • 1 fork and/or rubber gloves or silicone mitt (the turkey is hot!)
  • 1 platter (or 2), ready to receive carved pieces

And now, how to carve a turkey!

Deep fry a turkeySince Thanksgiving is right around the corner I thought I would share with you all how to deep fry a turkey, but then i came to my senses and found a site that tells you how. basically you take a turkey and stick it in a deep fryer for…oh about an hour.

Ingredients

* 11 ½ Lb Turkey (see Tips)
o patted dry, inside and out
o neck and giblets removed from cavity
o pop-up timer removed
o wire or plastic truss that holds the legs in place removed
o completely thawed; see Warnings
* 2 Tbsp cayenne pepper (or desired seasoning/marinade)
* Oil with high smoke point (peanut, refined canola, corn oil and sunflower)

Hit the Link for step-by-step instructions

I especially love the “tips”section.

  • Keep a fire extinguisher that is rated for putting out grease fires handy at all times!
  • This is best done with two people–one to watch the fryer, the other to help.

Baby On Board

It’s official we’re having a baby! We don’t know the sex yet but the baby is set to arrive May 11th!

Please meet the third edition to Team Cunningham.

Our Baby
This picture was taken at 9 weeks 3 days 2 hours 20 minutes and 10 seconds… but who’s counting!

When we saw the ultrasound (US) today I suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of reality. Like whoa, this is real, I’m going to have a little one. When the Doctor pulled back on the US image the baby was wiggling like Michael Jackson! It was so cute to see it move and realize that that is a real human growing inside there.

I’m sure as the pregnancy progress I will post more information about how things are going. We’re scheduled to take a genetics test at 11 weeks make sure the baby doesn’t have any pre-disposed genetic defaults, AS IF!!

But for now I will soak up the reality of being a father and how sweet that idea is.
