Remodel Update

Remodeling No Comments »

We’ve made significant progress with the remodel. The plumbing has been completed for the vanity walls. The routing of the 2 inch vent pipe was joined to the mysterious 3 inch vent pipe. And I say mysterious because I was told by many "master" plumbers that that was the vent pipe for 2 toilets, 2 tubs and kitchen sink so it had to remain a 3 inch. I will get into the venting in a minute but first let me finish with all the items completed. The water lines have been installed along with the drains. I leveled the toilet room and had the shower pan installed.

And You’ll Need a Permit for That

Remodeling No Comments »

Today I had 3 plumbers and 2 AC guys come by the house to give me estimates on certain portions of the remodel. I’m trying to move my attic stair, which is proving to be a very complicated process I might add, and need someone to re-route one of my main ducts. Next I’m trying to move my toilet 13 inches, re-route several venting pipes and re-route plumbing to a new wall. All of which is a big deal and is compounded by the fact almost everyone one of these guys wanted a permit to do any work!!

Aint Nothing but a Bit of Work

Jackhammer PlumbingThe plumbers started moving the toilet today and what an experience that was. They brought a huge jackhammer and started hammering into the foundation shaking the entire house. It was very nerve racking to watch someone hammer into your house’s foundation, let alone pay someone to do so. Needless to say, we did quite a bit of talking before any work was done but none the less, it’s still weird. While they were ripping up the concrete they came across the adjacent water lines, so looks like they’re going to have to put the toilet line under the water lines. Hope they get it right!

***UPDATE***

We have since discovered that the toilet doesn’t run directly into the 3inch vent pipe! What a mess that was to discover! Apparently, the toilet runs directly into the main sewer line and the vent does an “H” and vents into a 3 inch and a 2 inch. Got that?

RATS!!!!

Warning, this post contains graphic descriptions of me killing bloody rats, rat poop, and how I f**king hate rats!!

Ok, so when we first purchased the house we knew that there was a lot of remodeling we had to do and the master bath always had this funny small to it. But I just attributed the odor to the fact that the previous owners were smelly. As we started the first remodel, when I was in the attic, I noticed a lot of insulation kinda torn off and scattered throughout the attic space. I didn’t think much of it, it’s an attic. Well, one night about two weeks ago I was getting ready for bed and I heard what sounded like a hundred pound person in my attic above the master bath. At first I thought WTF is that, someone’s in my attic. I rushed to get a flash light, went up the attic stairs and with my flash light began searching for this hundred pound man.
