Now, one doesn’t just go and redo one’s portfolio. This is something that should be given some thought and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. The question I keep coming back to is what makes a good portfolio? What should I make it look like? Should I make it dark and minimal; maybe flashy and something wild or something that I’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the change to do? Should I use Wordpress, Expression Engine or just static pages? The list goes on and on!

In summation, it basically says not to use about 80%of the images I was looking at using. Now, it’s not to say that I’m a lesser designer for using these images but in corporate design, usually the “safe” approach is the one most taken. So, yes i’m guilty of following the heard but I’ve also heard that Web 2.0 is so…last year!

Check out the article, it’s a good read! Even though, there are still some practical uses for this kind of imagery.

This way you can have your entire mix in the same key or in a complimentary key. And since most of my music is now mp3 I think that I could come up with a wikkid set! I’m not sure if it would be boring to only stay in one key but I’ve read that this software also recommends keys.
They say “professional DJs, including Deep Dish and Pete Tong from BBC Radio 1 in using Mixed In Key software.” So, I guess it can’t be half bad!

Ok, so I’ve been totally caught up with Baby coming and work. Being at my new job is quite different than I had expected. But more to the point, I haven’t been able to spend hours a day on my blog. Therefore, my posts have begun to dwindle.

I assume that once Baby Cameron comes it might even get worse. In my quest to become a better father I’ve been doing a lot of research. As a kid growing up my dad had a hand full of interesting things he could do. One of the most famous tricks was turning a napkin into a bra. He never missed an opportunity to show off his brazier making skills and still does it to this day!

So I thought, well I had better come up with something that Cameron would remember. Get ready Cameron Daddy’s got a new trick!

But with all those single mp3s that don’t have an album to call home my library can get really out of control. So, being the neat, I mean beat, freak that I am I found TagScanner to be a real gem. It a free Windows application that boasts such features as getting album info via online databases like freedb or Amazon. TagScanner also supports ID3v1, ID3v2, Vorbis comments, APEv2, WindowsMedia and MP4(iTunes) tags. And if you’re also like me, you think iTunes blows and is not really good at cataloging music. Besides it’s a memory hog!

So be like me and download this program.

Now, batch processing isn’t the most interesting topic on the planet, and no I’m not starving for content thank you very much! The reason I’m blogging about this is every once in a while you just need to batch some freak’n images.

For example, a client of mine, who is a photographer, has a site that’s really pretty cool but every now and again I have to update his site. That means taking a ton of images and making them uniformly the same size. I know I know, I can use Photoshop for that but have you seen how complicated it is to get Photoshop to do that. It takes more time for me to set it up than it’s worth.

Therefore, I was overjoyed when I saw this handy little batching program that said it was really simple and it’s cross platform. Allow me to introduce Squash. Squash makers say that it allows resizing of images in a batch mode. It is friendly and usable and does one thing well - resizing images. It is a multi-threaded application and is designed to run on Linux, Mac and Windows. It’s really simple and easy to use.

So, if ever you’re in a situation where you have to resize a shite load of images try Squash and it will make you smile!

Hit the Link
